What is a CMR consignment note?
The CMR consignment note is the waybill for road transport across a border. It follows the Convention on the Contract for the International Carriage of Goods by Road, CMR for short, and records who took over the goods when and where, where they're going and what condition they were in. Sender and carrier sign at pickup, the consignee at delivery.

When goods travel by road to another country for payment, the CMR consignment note goes with them. All EU countries are party to the Convention.

One original stays with the sender, one travels with the goods to the consignee, one stays with the carrier. Each sheet says at the top who it's for.

What you fill in
The form follows the boxes of the usual printed form. The note that the carriage is subject to the CMR Convention is on every sheet. You sign on the printout.

Frequently asked questions about the CMR consignment note
Is the CMR consignment note really free?
Yes. Filling it in, the preview and the PDF cost nothing, and you don't need to sign up. We don't store anything you enter. At the bottom of each sheet there's a small note and a QR code saying the consignment note was created with flicono AI.
When do I need a CMR consignment note?
When goods travel by road across a border for payment and the place of pickup and the place of delivery are in two different countries, at least one of which is party to the CMR Convention. All EU countries are.
How many copies do I need?
Three originals: one for the sender, one travels with the goods to the consignee, and one stays with the carrier. Usually there's also a copy for your own files. The tool prints all four sheets in one PDF, or just one sheet if you like.
Do I have to print the CMR on colored paper?
No. Red, blue and green for the three originals are common, but not required. Each sheet says at the top who it's for, so white paper is fine.
Can I use my company logo?
Yes. Add your logo as a PNG, JPEG or SVG, and it appears on every sheet next to the sender.
Which languages are the field names in?
Always German and English. If you like, the language of the destination country is added, for example Polish, French, Italian, Spanish, Dutch or Czech.
Can I save my details for next time?
Not in the tool, it stores nothing and needs no account. If you write CMRs regularly, continue in flicono AI: there the CMR is created straight from the order. Use “Continue in flicono AI” below the preview, and the sender and logo from your sheet are already filled in when you sign up.
Do I need a CMR within Germany too?
No, the CMR is for transport across a border. Within Germany you usually use the consignment note under the German Commercial Code. flicono AI creates both straight from the order.
Is this an electronic CMR (e-CMR)?
No. The tool creates the consignment note as a PDF to print, and it's signed on paper. It doesn't offer an e-CMR with electronic signature.
